History of the Coalition of Troop Support

Sue Robertson, Director of the Coalition of Troop Support has been an advocate and actively supporting our troops since before the start of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Her husband a former Marine served in the first Gulf War. Combined her family has a military history of over 229 years. During Desert Storm/Desert Shield, Sue got her start by founding an organization called Operation Homefront.

More recently however, in October of 2003, Sue felt the call to duty once more. She kept coming in contact with several individuals, civic groups, and companies that were all trying to assist soldiers and soldier families with their own programs and support drives. While this was inspirational, Sue quickly realized that all of these programs had great ideas, there were simply just too many people and too many organizations trying do too many things.

Thus in March of 2004, a month that Oregon Governor Theodore Kulongoski proclaimed Community Troop Support Month, the Coalition of Troop Support was founded. The vision was simple; create an organization to bring all these groups and their ideas together, one place for people to come to honor and support our troops. To assist those that are deployed, support the families they have left behind, and offer them assistance when they return.
